As a pre-revenue startup, One Commerce set out to become a unified commerce management platform that empowers brands to sell anywhere and ship everywhere - all from one streamlined ecosystem in an AI-enabled platform.

First hire → Chief Product Officer built the budget, the small team of 12, and five modules from zero code to live in ~7 months

About the project

One Commerce is a powerful commerce management platform that enables brands to sell anywhere and ship everywhere - all through one centralized system. Building essentially an ERP for e-commerce required deep business knowledge, design expertise, and development and delivery excellence. I was first brought into e-commerce as head of UX by Tradefull's CTO, where I was promoted and built out the product team. From there, Tradefull's CEO made me the first hire at One Commerce and its Chief Product Officer. I built the engineering budget, hired and led a team of 12, and scoped the platform - taking five complex modules from zero lines of code to live in about seven months.

The Challenge

Building an entire ecosystem of interdependent applications in a timely manner with limited resources.

Key issues identified

  • Un-scoped requirements
  • Lack of clarity around core modules and features
  • Small team with limited experience
  • No design system
  • Un-identified or inadequate tooling definitions

The Goals

Define and deliver a minimally viable product that could onboard and service new customers as quickly as possible.

Key resolutions

  • Deeply scoped the entire platform
  • Hired, onboarded, and re-organized new teams
  • Streamlined the design-to-delivery pipeline
  • Created and licensed a scalable design system
  • Defined cost-effective tools and processes for delivery

Prototype first

Product Development Overview

Before launching development, we designed each feature and built a clickable prototype in Figma - letting the team test user flows, interactions, and overall usability. It validated structure, surfaced friction points, and aligned the entire team before writing a single line of code.

Rich has a keen understanding of user requirements and is adept at translating them into features that not only meet but exceed expectations. His commitment to delivering high-quality, user-centric products has been a key driver of our success.
